There are days when logistics is simply logistics.

Something comes in.

You put it somewhere.

And if all goes well, it goes out again later.

Friday was not one of those days.

On Friday we had negative stock.

That is a curious phenomenon. I can understand zero books. One book too. Even 185,000 books will eventually fit inside my head.

But minus 37 books?

That means you own books that do not exist.

At that point you leave the field of logistics and enter theoretical physics.

People searched.

In files.

In reservations.

In systems.

In things I did not even know could be searched until recently.

Slowly, another possibility emerged.

A black hole.

That would also explain what happened to the holiday workers who failed to turn up.

The Matrix was brought into it. Wormholes were discussed. At some point I honestly expected a man in a long black coat to appear between two pallets.

He did not.

At the end of the day, an email did arrive. For the time being, we were to focus on production again.

Perfectly logical.

I replied:

“And mind the wormhole ;-)”

Sometimes there is no need to make a logistics problem bigger than it is.

Perhaps it is not an error in the system.

Perhaps it is simply...

just another loophole.

And on Monday we will see where those books come out again.
