One hundred and eleven people. Not one single answer to what makes someone Frisian.
The encounter
A province does not have one face.
Together with Cynthia Bruinsma-de Vries, I met 111 people who feel connected to Friesland. Well-known and unknown, born Frisian or having found a home here. I made the portraits; Cynthia recorded their stories.
We did not ask for a definition, but about life, happiness and belonging. The answer would not fit into a single face. It is precisely the differences that form the portrait together.
The book

The project became a large bilingual hardcover book in Frisian and Dutch. Not a book to finish in one sitting, but one in which to meet someone new each time.
